New Chairman at First Samuel
First Samuel is pleased to announce that that Guy Strapp has been appointed as Chairman of the company, effective 1 May. Guy succeeds Murray Baird, who has been Chairman since 2010. Murray's predecessor, Nicholas Barnett, also served as Chairman for 10 years.
Guy became a director of First Samuel in mid-2019 and comes to First Samuel with over 35 years experience as a CEO, CIO and hands-on investor.
In his most recent role, he was for six years Chief Executive Officer of Eastspring Investment Limited (formerly Prudential Asset Management), based in Hong Kong. Eastspring manages over $250 billion of investments on behalf of retail and wholesale investors in Asia, Europe, the UK and US.
Prior to that role, he was Chief Investment Officer of Eastspring for 6 years.
His earlier experience included 5 years as CIO of BT Financial Group, Sydney; and in senior management and investment roles with Citigroup Asset Management/ J.P. Morgan Asset Management in Tokyo, Seoul and Melbourne.
Guy holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Melbourne and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Among other strengths, Guy will significantly add to First Samuel’s investment management and governance capabilities. He will Chair some board committees, including the Investment Governance Committee.
Founder of First Samuel, Anthony Starkins acknowledged the outstanding service of retiring Chairman to First Samuel, its clients and staff. During Murray’s tenure, he oversaw the recovery of First Samuel from the GFC and its strong growth in all aspects of the business. His oversight of the Board was the feature of his chairmanship. His capability will not be lost. Murray will remain on the First Samuel board, so that the company retains his wealth of legal and board experience.
