Wry & Dry

Is this the canary in the coal mine?

W&D has a great affinity with restaurants.  And so was intrigued by data from the US National Restaurant Association.  It has a 'Restaurant Performance Index', which plunged in December.

'Steady state' index level is 100.  It was 101.3 in November, then dropped to 99.7 in December.  This is the worst fall since early 2008, an eerily uncomfortable time, W&D remembers.

Dead canary?  Or even a dead parrot?  Perhaps a Norwegian Blue? [2]

[1]  29th February is traditionally the only day of the year when women can propose marriage to men.  And women are supposed to wear a pink petticoat when so doing.  W&D would have thought that a pair of trousers would suffice, as if that's the way the marriage is going to start, then... oh, never mind.
