After three positive weeks, the Australian market finished down this week. Even after a positive lead-in to start the week, the Australian market started the week very slightly down. The 'nothing week' (as one of my learned colleges says) continued until today. Then this morning ANZ announced an increase to its bad debt provisioning (which the market didn't take kindly too, share price -5.8% as I write), dragging the other banks down with it. The resource companies also had a negative day today. Overall the US market finished the week almost flat (-0.2%), and the Australian market finished down 1.6%.
