A broad-based rise in the US on their Friday provided the foundation of a strong week on the US market. After a mid-week hiatus, as the US Federal Reserve meeting took place, the positive sentiment returned. The US market finished up 2.5% for the week. Australia's market didn't take the lead from the US, and had a negative day on Tuesday. This was driven by weakness in commodity prices which dragged mining and energy stocks lower. With positive sentiment returning later in the week, the Australian market finished up 0.5% for the week.
