Global poverty - much done, much more to do
During the week the World Bank advised W&D that the number of people on the globe living in extreme poverty continues to fall dramatically. It's now down to 10% of the world's population, which is pretty good compared with the 40% some 15 years ago.
The President of the World Bank, Jim Yong Kim, says it all has to do with the strong economic growth of India and China (strange that, most of the world's people live in those two countries).
But there is much to do. 10% of the world's population still means that there are 700 million people still living in extreme poverty. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for over 50% of these.
